Compensation: Above industry average and generous benefits package. Salary may vary depending on experience and qualifications.

South Asian American Voter Empowerment of Texas Education Fund (SAAVETX EF), a fiscally sponsored project of NEO Philanthropy, Inc., is a Texas non-profit organization formed in 2022 that is driven by our mission to strengthen voter engagement infrastructure in Texas by expanding our political consciousness by educating and empowering our electorate. Position Overview:

South Asian American Voter Empowerment of Texas Education Fund is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as our Community Field Organizer to assist with executing our nonpartisan voter engagement program. The Community Field Organizer will work closely with the Program Director and Executive Director  and volunteers to be the main staff person in charge of planning and executing activities designed to find and register new voters, Get Out The Vote, and become a trusted representative of SAAVETX EF in the South Asian American community in the DFW area. The Community Field Organizer will also be responsible for developing relationships with community members and local leaders to build partnerships and facilitate activities in the voter engagement program. This position will require flexibility to adjust and grow with the changing needs of our organization. This position is ideal for applicants who have an internal drive to get the job done, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail, availability during evenings and weekends, excellent communication, a willingness to meet and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, team management experience, and an interest in serving underserved populations and communities of color. Flextime schedules that meet objectives can be accommodated.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Help develop strategies and systems that lead to successfully meeting daily and weekly organizing metrics, tracking data, and maintaining data

  • Innovate and collaborate with other external and internal stakeholders to continuously improve employer, volunteer, and program experiences

  • Recruit supporters and volunteers 

  • Facilitate training for members, volunteers and members of the general public who want to dedicate their time to nonpartisan voter engagement and advocacy

  • Lead recruitment efforts for field programming involving project management at the local level

  • Identify, develop rapport, and maintain relationships with local community, cultural, and religious leaders and collaborate with community partners and leaders to coordinate times and events to register voters

  • Conduct voter registration including, but not limited to, high traffic areas for South Asians 

  • Coordinate voter registration drives, canvasses, phone banking, and text banking events

  • Motivate voters to pledge to vote and inform voters about upcoming elections

  • Check in with your supervisor about team voter registration and pledge card collection goals

  • Communicate daily with your supervisor about your availability

  • Collaborate with other organizations to develop SAAVETX EF’s brand awareness and reputation and represent the organization effectively to the public

  • Identify, organize, and drive turnout to events involving VDR training opportunities, voter registration drives, voter education events, and Get Out The Vote efforts (including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and text banking)

  • Manage and motivate volunteers and paid part-time staff to represent SAAVETX EF at events and carry out activities related to voter engagement and mobilization of voters

  • Foster greater awareness of the importance of civic engagement as well as of South Asian and South Asian American issues in the community

  • Prepare written reports and compile data as required

  • Provide written narratives and photographs or videos to assist with content generation for social media and the SAAVETX EF website

  • Practice all safety protocols, including COVID-19 safety requirements

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • At least 2 years of relevant work and/or volunteer experience in community organizing

  • Experience working with immigrants and/or underserved communities

  • Worked or lived experience with the South Asian American community

  • Willingness to learn and grow within the South Asian American community

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Ability to work well with religious, cultural, ethnic and social groups

  • Ability to move community members to action

  • Excellent team managerial skills and ability to foster a positive and motivating work environment for volunteers and paid part-time staff

  • Willingness to work long and often irregular hours including evenings and weekends

  • Ability to plan and manage work effectively and independently

  • Full time access to a car

  • Attention to detail and an ability to keep accurate records

  • Ability to provide own computer/laptop and internet

  • Familiarity and knowledge of the DFW area and/or civic engagement landscape a plus

  • Experience in working with voter database systems (VAN or other) a plus

  • Bilingual in a South Asian language and English preferred

  • Solid Computer skills: experience with MS Word, Excel, Google suite
