Statewide Constitutional

South Asian Texans will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of 14 constitutional amendments slated for the November 7th election. These amendments cover a wide range of issues

PROPOSITION 1: FARMING

Protects the right to engage in farming, ranching, timber production, horticulture, and wildlife management

PROPOSITION 2: CHILD CARE

Offers tax exemptions to child care facilities

PROPOSITION 3: WEALTH TAX

Prohibits a wealth tax (A wealth or net worth tax is a tax on the value of a person’s assets)

PROPOSITION 4: PROPERTY TAXES

Lowers property taxes by increasing homestead exception

PROPOSITION 5: GRANTS TO HIGHER UNIVERSITIES

Allows more universities to qualify for research grants

PROPOSITION 6: WATER PROJECTS

Provides grants to water projects to improve water infrastructure

PROPOSITION 7: ENERGY FUND

Provides low-rate loans or grants to companies to build or upgrade electric generating plants in Texas

PROPOSITION 8: BROADBAND

Creates the broadband infrastructure fund to expand high-speed broadband access and assist in the financing of connectivity projects

PROPOSITION 9: TEACHERS RETIREMENT FUND

Provides retired Texas teachers with cost-of-living raises to their monthly pension checks

PROPOSITION 10: MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

Creates tax incentives for medical equipment suppliers to locate in Texas

PROPOSITION 11: EL PASO - CONSERVATION AND RECLAMATION

Adds El Paso County to the conservation and reclamation districts. Currently, 11 counties are permitted to issue bonds supported by property taxes.

PROPOSITION 12: GALVESTON COUNTY

Eliminates the Galveston County County Treasurer position

PROPOSITION 13: RETIREMENT AGE FOR JUDGES

Increases the retirement age for judges

PROPOSITION 14: NATIONAL PARKS FUND

An investment in buying and creating more national state parks
